Yesterday we experienced some downtime. I want everyone to know that it was caused by a city owner/manager, just like all of you. I will explain what exactly happened at the end, for those that do not care to read about it. In the spirit of not being able to eat until 4 PM yesterday because someone installed extensions that were not tested by me, here is a new rule. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ON YOUR SITE THAT I DID NOT TELL YOU TO INSTALL OR GIVE WRITTEN PERMISSION TO INSTALL. Unsupported extension goes up and your site gets turned off until I can remove the rogue software. If you have some extension you really want, then contact me via email, and we will discuss it's use, but 3PD devs are notorious for having bugs, incompatibility, and HUGE security problems. Everything on your site that was developed by a non-iSurf employee has been THOROUGHLY tested on a non-production site and off server by me or another member of my team. Remember that your mistakes have consequences that are server-wide sometimes, and you hurt not only yourselves but your fellow owners. It is precisely this reason we do not allow FTP or SSH access to your site, but with ADMINISTRATOR access, you can still do harm to yourself and others, so be very careful and post on the helpdesk before you do something crazy.
